Details: Do you want to get your heart pumping with some exercise and a good scare? Join us at the First Annual Pumpkin Slayer 5k on October 30, 2021, presented by the Bay Area Runners Club.  The run/walk will begin at 7:00pm at Jones Road Park in Essexville, Michigan and end at Finn Road Park and Campground. This is a point-to-point race! Our creepy course will be winding through the eerie woods between Jones Rd and Finn Rd utilizing the trails along the Bay in Hampton Township. We will celebrate with a bonfire and refreshments at the finish line as we hand out custom Age Group awards to racers.  Each registered racer will be given a Life Gear Flashlight Glow wand at the finish. A short or long sleeve Shirt will be included with registration.  This will be the last weekend of camping at Finn Rd Campground, so consider joining other racers as we camp for the weekend. Please see below for pricing and booking details. This is a family friendly event for a wonderful cause, COMMUNITY!  All proceeds will support local charities through the Bay Area Runners Club. Please go to and click on Community Impact for a snapshot of the charities we support. Every month we give thousands of dollars to amazing community outreach programs. Consider joining the Bay Area Runners Club so that you can be involved in giving back through fun and fitness! REGISTRATION INFO: $25 entry fee includes, race entry, bib, t-shirt (if registered by October 15th), Glow wand flashlight on a lanyard and the possibility at an age group award customized by Beaverton Schools art students. Each participant registered by October 15th will have their choice of a soft cotton short or long sleeved shirt. Please register before 5 pm Friday October 15th if you would like a shirt! LOCATION INFO: BE AWARE!! THIS RACE STARTS AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION THAN IT FINISHES! Race begins at the North end of Jones Road on Saginaw bay. It is a small park and parking lot with a few porta-johns. Packet pick-up and main parking will be at the finish area located at 2300 N. Finn Rd, Essexville, MI 48732.  Parking will be available at the start line as well. There will be a shuttle van running to the start beginning at 6 pm. The shuttle van will also be pulling a hay-wagon(weather permitting), so please allow enough time to get to the start if using our shuttle. This shuttle will run continuous loops until the start of the race. You can also coordinate to drop cars at each end as the parking lots are only 2 miles away from each other. Please plan ahead, we do not plan to have a shuttle after the race. Walking or running back to the start is also an option. Thank you for your patience, making a point to point race was a decision made for a more enjoyable course. We hope everyone loves it!!! COURSE INFO: Jones Road Park to Finn Road Park. The course will mainly be gravel. It is flat and winding. It will be lit by small led lights and you will encounter some scares! Some spooks may be LIVE ACTION, for this reason we would prefer NO DOGS. Please feel free to bring as bright of a light as you'd like for your little ones. We do suggest a headlamp or light as it will be getting dark. We will cross a few wooden bridges and run some dirt trails as well. Hardly any pavement, please be aware that weather could cause some mud, but the course is mostly on gravel. Strollers are welcome, but please be sure they can travel safely over deep spots of gravel, mud and wooden plank bridges. CAMPING INFO: Finn Road Campground has spots available for camping. However tent camping is not allowed. Sites at this park are cement pad and a camper of some sort is necessary. It is a wonderful campground with a nice bathhouse and playground. A boat launch is also on location. Each site has water and electric hookups, a picnic table, firepit and Free WIFI. Sites are $26 a night for 30 amp service and $27 a night for 50 amp, + $3 booking fee. Please visit for more info. Email to make reservations.  Did we forget anything? Please email the race director Sharon Pilaske if you have any further questions.
